Arizona Rail Passenger Association
Reducing traffic on our city streets and cleaning the brown cloud we live under no longer a someday dream. By voting "yes" on Proposition 1, the traffic congestion relief plan, we can make that dream a reality.
Phoenix, the 6th largest city in the country has a transportation system that ranks near the bottom. The ability of the current system to keep citizens moving around the city, to their jobs, to school and elsewhere has not kept pace with our rapid growth. With the population projected to double by the year 2000, we have to do something now!
The Traffic Congestion Relief Plan includes sweeping changes in the bus system, including:
o 100% conversion of all buses to alternative clean burning fuels o 150 new left turn arrows and 150 bus pullouts each year to improve traffic flow o Neighborhood circulator buses taking riders to the nearest major bus route o Dial-A-Ride average wait time reduced by 50%, with expanded service hours for seniors and persons with disabilities o Free bus fares for students up to 18 years old, seniors and persons with disabilities o Security cameras on buses and security personnel at park and ride lots o Citizen's Oversight Committee will ensure accountability to you, the voter
These improvements will not only reduce the congestion currently choking our streets, but also remove an estimated 22,000 pounds of pollution every workday. We urge you to Vote Yes on Proposition 1.
