Arizona Rail Passenger Association

Proposition 1 Argument

Argument in Support of Proposition #1:

The Arizona Transit Association (AzTA) represents over one hundred businesses, cities, towns, counties, agencies and individuals dedicated to expanding public transit in the state of Arizona.

Making life better in Arizona is the AzTA mission. On September 9, voters have the opportunity to make life better throughout Phoenix by approving a sales tax for improved bus services. Anyone who has visited other major cities know that Phoenix has an inadequate bus system. It's no coincidence that Denver, Dallas, Houston, Salt Lake City, San Diego, Seattle and many others have already passed tax increases and have excellent systems.

Improving public transit will help the Valley in the fight against growing congestion and air pollution problems. A better bus system will allow people to make choices to quit using their car to go to and from work, and give travel opportunities that are

desperately needed for those who are disabled or too young to drive. By building bus pullouts, buses can get in and out of traffic easily, improving travel for everyone. Improved bus service is one more tool to help keep our Valley an attractive community to live, work, and visit.

Recently, the voters in Tempe had the vision to approve a similar sales tax for transit. The Arizona Transit Association encourages the same support for this tax program to make life better for Phoenix residents.
