Arizona Rail Passenger Association
An argument in support of Proposition 1
This proposition will substantially improve bus and dial-a-ride service for individuals currently using the system and make it more accessible for individuals currently unable to use the system due to lack of availability. Increased service hours in the evenings and on weekends will mean that individuals who rely on transit services for mobility will be able to access employment opportunities in the evenings and on week ends. They will be able to attend public meetings, sporting events, concerts and plays held during the evening hours and on weekends. They will be able to attend church services without relying on the good will of friends, neighbors or family members for rides. Increased frequency of service using modern, clean fuel vehicles will mean less time waiting at bus stops and more comfortable riding conditions. Newer vehicles will also enhance their accessibility and reliability for members of the physically challenged and elderly communities.
This proposition will allow Phoenix to join the City of Tempe in marching forward to create an efficient, economical and balanced transportation system. A transportation system that will encourage continued, sustainable economic growth while at the same time providing those alternatives so necessary in combating traffic congestion and air pollution.
It is a time for the citizens of Phoenix to make a commitment to the future of the Valley. A future that has a transportation system that is good for the people, good for the economy and good for the environment. This proposition offers such a future.
