The depot at Casa Grande is currently used by Union Pacific crews. The Sunset Limited and Texas Eagle stop here to change crews, but passengers cannot board or detrain.

The siding in the foreground would enable trains to pass a stopped Amtrak train. At the east end of the depot is a covered area which could be used by waiting passengers. An eating establishment across the street has food, drink, restrooms, and telephones. Greyhound stops less than a block away.

Casa Grande is a thriving industrial and agricultural community of over 20,000.

The ARPA Board of Directors on 24 April 1999 endorsed Casa Grande as a passenger stop temporarily until the Sunset Limited and Texas Eagle can be properly routed directly through Coolidge, Tempe, and Phoenix.

A stop at Casa Grande, 50 miles from Phoenix, is no a substitute for a direct Phoenix routing. ARPA is doing its utmost to bring Amtrak back through Phoenix. But Casa Grande is a city which would benefit from Amtrak passenger service as long as the trains are stopping here anyway.
