At the 21 June 1997 Board Meeting, the ARPA Board of Directors approved a motion that the Association endorse the transit ballot measures in Phoenix, Propositions 1 and 2.
These transit tax measures on the ballots of Phoenix, if approved, will create a 1/2 cent sales tax (1/4 cent of which replaces the existing stadium district tax) which will fund an expanded bus system, and will also create a citizens committee which will decide what, if any, additional transit systems should be built.
It is ARPA's hope that this may lead to the creation of a rail system in the Valley.
