10 January 1998 ARPA Meeting, Tucson
Sixteen ARPA members and guests attended the January 10 meeting. The board
of directors, which has been meeting primarily in metro Phoenix, was encouraged
by the strong support of our Tucson area members, and by the many developments
in the region:
- Old Pueblo Trolley, Arizona's only
operating electric streetcar, has acquired an ex-Toronto streetcar and is
considering extensions at both ends of its system
- The City of Tucson will acquire the Southern Pacific depot as part of a
land-swap with the UPRR
- The "Tucson Depot
Gateway Vision" project envisions the depot as an intermodal center
with passenger rail, intercity and local buses, trolley, and LRV transit
- the Governor's High-Speed study
continues to examine Tucson-Phoenix service
Our thanks to Anthony Haswell for making the meeting arrangements, and to
Old Pueblo Trolley for providing transportation to the hotel.
