Agenda:
from the March 1994 ARPA TIMETABLE
Copper Basin Railway vice president and general manager Lowell "Jake" Jacobson has been named Railway Age 1994 Railroader of the Year. The January article notes Mr. Jacobson is a symbol of the many railroad people who worked to keep the trains running during the flood season last year. While the Mississippi floods made national headlines, Arizona and the Copper Basin had its own high water problems with the Gila River.
Mr. Jacobson's skill at working with people, and getting great results from good morale, earned him this award. The Arizona Rail Passenger Association congratulates Mr. Jacobson.
"A few years ago a group of rail fans put together Arizona Rail Passenger Association. Even though I helped these people, I must admit I had my doubts about this fledgling group.
"Today however, it's a different story. These people have worked hard, put together some of the right people, and I am confident we will see the birth of a new commuter rail service in the Arizona desert long before the turn of the century. "Today's rail fans are more sophisticated and well informed. They add a romantic and nostalgic twist to our industry. They have a deep concern for the well being of the future of the rail industry -- and they vote.
"We should recognize this long overlooked ally. And after all, isn't it great to work in a business where there are fans. I salute the rail fans of the world."
