ARPA's Third Annual Awards Dinner was held on Saturday, 20 November 1999, at Bashas' Corporate Art Museum in Chandler, Arizona. We are exceptionally thankful to Mr. Basha for making his stunning museum available for our function this year. The collection of Western painting, sculpture, carvings, and ceramics was described as "unparalleled," "the most diverse and best I've ever seen," and "absolutely breathtaking" by attendees.
But this was only the beginning to the evening. After an invocation by Warren Steffey, and a sumptuous dinner compliments of AJ's Fine Foods, longtime ARPA members and activists Robert Hart and Robert Barber were presented with the title "Board Member Emeritus" on behalf of the ARPA Board of Directors, in recognition of their continuing rail advocacy.
New Board members Barbara Espinosa, Shirley Greenwood, and Lela Steffey were welcomed.

ARPA President Samuel Morse presented the awards to this year's recipients. Mr. Jack Tevlin of Phoenix reminded us there is a long road ahead yet in the Phoenix transit election. The Light Rail will be just a part of a vastly improved transportation system, including many more local and express buses, neighborhood circulators, and continuing road and bicycle improvements. |

Mr. Max Biegert of the Grand Canyon Railway said their Far West Airlines had just begun service from Phoenix and from Long Beach to Williams, with a connection to their train there. For the first time, this makes a day trip from Phoenix to the Canyon possible. They project rail ridership of 165,000 this year, and many more next year. |
