What do you think?

Does Arizona need any of these to meet its transportation challenges?

  • Light rail in the Phoenix and Tucson metro areas
  • Frequent intercity rail service between Los Angeles, Phoenix, Tucson, and points east
  • Better intercity rail service in and between Southern and Northern Arizona
  • Commuter rail service in the Phoenix metro area
  • Regional rail service between Phoenix and Tucson
  • Better coordination of trains with airports, city and intercity buses, and other modes

If you answered "YES" to any of the above, you should join ARPA!

Who are we?

We are a non-profit volunteer organization striving to improve and expand all forms of rail passenger service in Arizona and the Southwest. We do this through members like you… persons who believe in rail passenger service as part of a balanced transportation system. Persons who help us work with governments, civic leaders, corporations, and other citizen groups. We…

  • Were the first to alert the media about the pending withdrawal of Phoenix Amtrak service.
  • Have been in the forefront of efforts to re-establish intercity rail service to Phoenix, Tempe, and Coolidge.
  • Were the first to suggest the use of Tempe-Phoenix rail shuttles in case of Salt River flooding, long before the 1980 rains came.
  • Were the first to recognize the potential of revived rail service to the Grand Canyon.
  • Were the first to response to expensive urban transit proposals with a concept of a practical Regional Rail system using Arizona's existing railroad rights-of-way.

ARPA works with public officials and civic leaders at all levels to expand and improve rail service in Arizona and the Southwest. We work to inform and educate legislators on the importance of passenger rail service. (See our Mission and Goals statement.)
