As part of its national tour, the German ICE train stopped at Phoenix, Tempe, and Tucson. While the ICE train itself is designed for electrified corridors, its amenities are typical of today's new generation of trains.

Aboard the ICE train there is a selection of first-class and standard seating, including "two and two" and "two and one" as well as table seats. Audio and video programs are available -- in the first-class section, seats have video displays. Passenger information shown on displays includes next station stop and current speed. The train itself is a single pneumatically sealed tube -- note the glass car-end door above. Passage from one car to the next is easy. The ICE train rode well over the sometimes bumpy 50 MPH track here. This sleek, quiet, comfortable train was very different from anything most Arizonans had experienced.
